Dreams of Flight
Original watercolour, ink and gouache painting on 425gsm watercolour paper.
Painted are 34cm x 25.5cm
Framed with white painted wood frame and white mount.
I love the shapes that trees make - never two the same. As I walk, I take photos. I then cut the resulting images at various points and mirror them to see what patterns result. I photographed this tree in the winter, when the branches show their shapes.
This piece came in response to walking around the wilder areas of Oxford, always surrounded by bird calls, rustling in trees, flashes of birds flying - the sense that there’s a magical world of flight around us that we can enjoy, glimpse, yet never be a part of.
This is one of my Order and Chaos series, silhouette-based paintings inspired by the nature and wildlife I see and photograph on my walks around Oxford.
