Kingfishers usually hunt from riverside perches, but occasionally dive from hovering, like this vibrant Suffolk kingfisher.

Tondo Kingfisher in Flight is one of seven paintings in my Tondo series of wildlife portraits.

I created this series to elevate these British birds and animals, asking that we look again at their intrinsic worth by presenting each as a bright jewel in a gilded setting.

I wanted the character and beauty of each to shine through.

‘Tondo’ is a Renaissance term for a circular piece of art.
